Our History

Betts Funeral Services was established in the late 1940’s by Les Betts. Les was brought up in Cromwell and learnt his trade from his father, later moving to Timaru and starting the business known as L W Betts & Co. The site that Les chose at 33 North Street is still the same location where we are today, now known as Betts Funeral Services.

Our family has owned Betts since 1983 with Richard Ireton running the business along with the help of his father Howard. The Betts organisation is now in the third generation of our family with Julian Donaldson (Richard’s nephew) and Mitch Ireton (Richard’s son) taking over the ownership in 2016. We continue to pride ourselves on delivering the same high standards and dignity that our community has come to expect from the Betts name as number one provider of funeral care in the South Canterbury region.
