ODDIE, Mavis Margaret (née Tozer); died peacefully at the Croft on Friday evening, April 6th, 2018. Mavis was born on 11th May, 1922. She was educated at TGHS and Otago University from which she graduated MA in English and French in 1944. In 1945 she married John Crosfield Oddie, a pharmacist, also from Timaru. Mavis taught English, French and Latin at several Timaru schools, including Craighead, from which she retired in 1982. Her husband John died in 1997 after 52 years of marriage. Mavis was deeply loved by her four children, Juliet (London, UK), Kate (London, UK), Richard (Brisbane, Australia) and Graham (Boulder CO, USA) and by her daughter-in-law Alison (Boulder) and her son-in-law, Harry (London). She was also much cherished by her eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, all of whom survive her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her — to know her was to love her. A service for Mavis will be held at St Stephens Presbyterian Church, Wai-iti Rd, Timaru on Saturday April 14th, at 11:00am, followed by private cremation.
